So there I was, shiny new copy of NHL 10, and truly keyed up to play this year's edition. Lots of new changes, a new Be a GM Mode, awesome. Just fantastic. And as I started my franchise/GM season, I began really tinkering with the structure of my Flyers, and managed to make some critical trades, and dial down the average age a good five years, while clearing out a ton of cap space and retaining enough veteran talent to field a great top six and two solid pairs of D.
The more I played, though, the more concerned I became. Either "default" is just too difficult for me right now, or worse, my hockey skills are that poor. I have managed to score goals -- but they are few and far between, and I'm having a lot of difficulty figuring out do it consistently. Targeting seems haphazard, and it's hard to know if this is a factor of the skills of the players on the ice, or my controller handling skills -- I take that split second to look, target, and set before I fire, but still, the puck doesn't seem to go where I want it.
I'm pretty certain that it's me -- I can't imagine the entire review community getting it wrong and missing critical details like "scoring is impossible." But the allied AI isn't QUITE where I need them to be, the defense still has holes in it.
May just need more cowbell.
